Great piece, good food for thought! Absolutely agree with you, except for the part when you say that systems cannot be designed. They cannot be designed in the sense of visual, UX, or service design, but they can and are designed in the capital D sense of Design. Think smart cities. Public healthcare programmes. Shared mobility. Corvid vaccinations schemes. Those are systems and they are designed, (hopefully) by multidisciplinary teams of designers, engineers, policymakers, consultants and so on.
